Pringle Cottage - The Warwick Museum

The heritage-listed Pringle Cottage is the main building of the Warwick Museum, and was built by John McCulloch, a stone mason from Scotland, circa 1870. The two-storied sandstone building served as McCulloch’s residence; McCulloch built several other significant sandstone buildings in Warwick, including The Abbey of the Roses, the Warwick Town Hall and St Mark’s Anglican Church.

Pringle Cottage is open daily during CelticFest. Take a step back in time as you enter the museum grounds through the heritage sandstone rose garden, which was designed and built by members of the Warwick Historical Society to celebrate Warwick’s 150th birthday in 2011. Pringle Cottage itself is furnished with many different period items donated by early settler families, and on either side of the entry door are two leadlight windows, dedicated to the fallen in World War 1. When you’ve had your fill of the history embodied in this remarkable building, you can meander around the rest of the museum complex, and view the extensive machinery display which provides a glimpse into the pioneering life of the region’s early settlers.

Breakfast with Rupert McCall

CelticFest in conjunction with The Little Gallery Café invites you to join a very special CelticFringe breakfast event in Warwick on Saturday 4 October, featuring internationally renowned Australian poet Rupert McCall. Rupert has been likened to a modern-day Banjo Patterson and is probably best known for ‘Green and Gold Malaria’, his ode to Australia, written for Australia Day 1995. Green and Gold Malaria is also the first poem in his most recent anthology, Golden Soil, which collects the best of his poetry spanning almost 30 years, including ‘A Firefighter’s Dream’, written in tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9-11. He was invited by the Fire Department of New York’s (FDNY) Captain Liam Flaherty to recite this poem at the annual FDNY dusk ceremony at Ground Zero on September 11, 2010, after Captain Flaherty saw a recording of the poem. Rupert was then asked back to repeat his performance on the 10th anniversary of 9-11, in September 2011.

Rupert is in Warwick on Saturday 4 October to attend the Roche family reunion; he is the great-grandson of Cornelius Roche, who emigrated to Australia together with his seven siblings from 1883, settling in Emu Vale.

Don’t miss out on this rare and wonderful opportunity to meet and have breakfast with Rupert in The Print Room at the Little Gallery Cafe, where he will recite some of his poetry, participate in a short Q&A with MC Stephen Roche, and take some questions from the audience! And if you haven’t got your copy of Golden Soil yet, this will be your chance to not only get your hands on one, but to also have it signed by Rupert.

Your ticket will include a buffet-style breakfast with finger food, tea and coffee (barista coffee/tea/drinks must be purchased separately). But tickets are very limited – be quick so you don’t miss out!
